Workshops & Teaching

Helen runs courses and workshops which aim to inspire artistic development using waterbased painting and drawing. She structures her courses carefully, to ensure that students learn how to feel comfortable using watercolour and other mediums, by practising structured exercises and experimenting with new techniques.

Providing a springboard to inspire creative development, Helen uses techniques that can be built on and which help explore the myriad of elements that bring individuality to painting. Topics include landscapes, botanicals, still life and abstracted nature. She teaches mindfulness and art and is passionate about wellbeing. The courses often include a mixed media element using found materials and incorporating them into the artwork. She demonstrates and shows composition methods, including how to visually edit a layout. At the end of each session she facilitates a supportive group discussion to enable everyone to share ideas and learn from one another.

Her experience covers community groups having taught with Ealing Council, OPEN Ealing Arts Centre, London, Leeds libraries and Gunnersbury mansion. During lockdown she was one of the first tutors to embrace Zoom, with the aim of keeping classes going.
