In western painting the aim is to represent the world as realistically as possible. In Eastern painting the goal is not to depict a precise view of the world but the essence of the subject. I marry the two by using expressive marks in a style which has become my own. The negative space is almost as important as what I'm painting. The expressive character is what I aim to achieve.
